What Can Anxiety Feel Like
Anxiety can be difficult to put into words. You might know that everything is okay, yet still find yourself feeling on edge, unsettled, or waiting for something to go wrong. Even in moments that should feel calm, there can be a lingering sense of tension that never seems to fully switch off.
Anxiety doesn’t just affect your thoughts; it can affect your whole body. You may experience a racing heart, tightness in your chest, shallow breathing, restlessness, or a feeling that you simply can’t relax. At times these feelings can appear suddenly and feel overwhelming, leaving you questioning why you’re reacting this way.
The Impact Anxiety Can Have on Daily Life
Over time, anxiety can begin to shape everyday life. You might find yourself avoiding situations, putting things off, overthinking decisions, or constantly trying to stay one step ahead of potential problems. From the outside, it may seem as though you’re coping well, while inside you’re carrying a heavy burden that nobody else can see.
When Anxiety Doesn't Make Sense
One of the most frustrating aspects of anxiety is that it doesn’t always make sense. You may understand logically that you are safe, yet your mind and body continue to respond as though there is a threat. This can leave you feeling exhausted, isolated, and disconnected from yourself.
You don’t have to face this alone.
How Can Counselling Help
I offer a warm, supportive and confidential space where you can talk openly about what you’re experiencing, without judgement or pressure. Together, we can begin to understand the impact anxiety is having on your life, explore where it may have come from, and help you develop a greater sense of confidence, understanding and control.
Counselling isn’t about “getting rid” of anxiety. It’s about helping you understand yourself more deeply, finding new ways of responding to difficult thoughts and feelings, and creating space for the life you want to live.
